Dibenzoylmethane (DBM) is an important β- dione structural thermo-plastic light, heat stabilizers. It is a non-toxic, tasteless material and can be widely used in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics and acrylonitrile - butadiene - styrene (ABS) resin. 
Used in PVC plastics, DBM can not only raise its light, heat stability, but also improve on its coloring, weatherproof and transparency in the early phase. And DBM has a brilliant synergy when it is combined with soap stabilizer of Ca，Zn，Ba，Pb，Sb etc. Its adding amount is about 0.1% amount of PVC resin. Therefore, DBM can be used for food and beverage packaging materials, PVC film, doors, windows and bags and so on. For ABS resin, DBM can both strengthen the light, heat stability and power its molding properties.DBM can obtaine a better effects used in conjunction with the chloride of Sb, Bi, etc. and the amount of adding is about 2% of the amount of ABS resin. In addition, DBM can also be used for synthesis of efficient herbicides 1,2 - dimethyl - 3,5 - diphenyl-pyrazole methyl sulfate salts, UV absorbers, sunscreens, cosmetic sunscreen, fluorescence materials of high-efficiency rare earth organic complexes, and when extraction for the precious, rare metals, it can be used as uranium enrichment agents. 
In view of DBM being non-toxic, tasteless, and free of environmental pollution, and having a good synergy in combination with other plastics additives, so it has a very broad application prospects in the plastics industry.The applications in the plastics industry will become the mainstream of plastic industry development.
