Diatomaceous earth (DE), also known as diatomite, diahydro, kieselguhr, kieselgur and Celite, is a sedimentary rock primarily composed of the fossilized remains of unicellular fresh water plants known as Diatoms. The typical chemical composition of diatomaceous earth is 86% silica, 5% sodium, 3% magnesium and 2% iron.
