Calcium antagonists have made many achievements in clinical treatment of coronary heart disease, hypertension, angina pectoris, arrhythmia and other cardiovascular diseases. Diltiazem is a representative of non-dihydropyridine calcium antagonists, whose cardiovascular effects are between benzoylamines and dihydropyridines. It has mild peripheral vascular dilatation and can increase coronary and renal blood flow, and has been widely used in the treatment of ischemic heart disease and hypertension. Numerous clinical studies of its effectiveness have been conducted in Japan, Europe and the United States. Diltiazone inhibits the influx of calcium ions into cells by acting on vascular smooth muscle and atrioventricular node of coronary vessels and peripheral vessels, which shows the effect of vascular dilation and prolonging the conduction time of atrioventricular node, so as to be effective in treating hypertension, arrhythmia and angina pectoris.
