Cylinder lenses are a type of lens that have differing radii in the X and Y axes, causing the lens to have a cylindrical or semi-cylindrical shape, and image magnification in only a single axis. Cylinder lenses are commonly used as laser line generators, or to adjust image height size or correct for astigmatism in imaging systems.

Cylindrical lenses focus or expand light within a single axis only. They can be used to focus light into a thin line in optical metrology, laser scanning, spectroscopic, laser diode, acousto-optic and optical processor applications. They can also be used to expand the output of a laser diode into a symmetrical beam. Our N-BK7 lenses, featuring high homogeneity and low bubble and inclusion content, are a great choice for most laboratory applications. Our UV Fused Silica lenses are ideal for UV or higher energy applications, combining a very low thermal expansion coefficient and excellent transmittance down to 195 nm. These lenses are available in plano-convex or plano-concave shapes, either uncoated or coated with a variety of antireflection coatings.
