Basalt fibers are leaky platinum-rhodium alloy wiredrawing plates of basalt materials melted at 1450 ~1500 C.

Continuous fibers drawn at high speed have the same strength as S glass fibers. Pure natural basalt fibers are usually brown in colour, and some are golden in colour. Basalt fiber is a new kind of inorganic environmental friendly green high-performance fiber material. It is made of oxides such as silica, alumina, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, iron oxide and titanium dioxide. After melting at high temperature, the basalt material is rapidly drawn through a leaky plate. Basalt continuous fiber not only has high strength, but also has many excellent properties such as electrical insulation, corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and so on. In addition, the production process of basalt fibers determines that there are less waste, less environmental pollution, and products can be directly degraded in the environment after being discarded, without any harm, so it is a real green and environmental protection material. Basalt fibers have been listed as one of the four major fibers (carbon fibers, aramid fibers, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, basalt fibers) to be developed in China, and industrialized production has been realized. Basalt continuous fibers have been widely used in fiber reinforced composites, friction materials, shipbuilding materials, thermal insulation materials, automotive industry, high temperature filter fabrics and protection fields.
