Milk thistle is a two annual or perennial herbaceous plants and is native to southern Europe and North Africa. In Europe and Africa, It has thousands of years history of cultivation and use and is a folk medicinal plants. It is widely used as a drug for the treatment of liver disease and cardiovascular disease.

Pharmacological function

1 Hepatoprotective effect

Milk thistle is the main active ingredient for protecting liver and has regenerative effect, it can stimulate the formation of new liver cells and improve liver function. It also has the protective effect on liver cell membrane, preventing cell toxin infiltration in liver cells and enhance the recovery of membrane structure defect.

2 Antioxidant

Phenolic hydroxyl hydrogen atoms in Silymarin is a powerful antioxidant. They have free radical scavenging activity and anti lipid peroxidation activity.

3 Lowering blood lipid

Silymarin can inhibit adult rat myocardial cell plasma membrane Ca2 + channels, curb excessive food induced blood cholesterol, reduce extremely low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL), and increase high density lipoprotein (HDL) and it can be used for the treatment of diseases of the cardiovascular system.
