The Montherwort P.E extract from Montherwort herb.Motherwort herb consists of the aboveground parts of Leonurus cardiaca L., gathered during flowering season, and their preparations in effective dosage. The preparation contains alkaloids (stachydrine), glycosides of bitter principles, and bufenolide.

Function

1.For treatment of irregular menstruation caused by stasis in the blood division of women, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea

2.For treatment of edema, difficulty in urination with stagnant heat.

3. It can also be used to treat skin sore and carbuncle caused by noxious heat, by its effect of clearing away heat and toxins.

4.To treat amenorrhea (abnormal absence or suppression of menses), dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation) and obstructed menstruation due to blood stasis, postpartum abdominal pain due to blood stasis and qi stagnation, etc.

Useage

As its Latin name cardiaca indicates, Motherwort is primarily used for cardiac issues, but as its common name indicates, it has also been used widely for women’s health. “Chinese research shows that it promotes a better volume of blood throughout the body and can slow a rapid heart rate,” , while other scientists “have found extracts to have antispasmodic, hypotensive, sedative, cardiotonic, diuretic, antioxidant, immuno-stimulating, and cancer-preventative activity”.

Motherwort is also widely known as a sedative, nervine, emmenagogue, and hepatic. Specifically regarding its cardiotonic qualities, Leonurus cardiaca is “strengthening without straining. It is specific for over-rapid heart beat where this is brought about by anxiety”
