The hollow glass bead was available in the early 1970s on the international market. It is a widespread high-performance filling material. It features lightweight, low thermal conductivity, non-toxicity, incombustibility, excellent chemical stability, and high dispersibility. Therefore, it is an excellent filler in the polyester industry, especially for producing fiber reinforced plastics, poly-putty base, and man-made marble. Also, it is also a good sensitizer for emulsification.

The hollow glass bead is a tiny hollow round powder, with a diameter of 1 mm to 500 mm and a density of 0.1 g/ cm3 to 0.3 g/cm3. It features lightweight, low thermal conductivity coefficient, high compressive strength, excellent dispersibility, fluidity, and stability. In addition, it is insulated, self-lubrication, soundproof, nonabsorbent, fireproof, corrosion-proof, radiation-proof, and nontoxic. It is can be filled in most of thermoset and thermoplastic rosin products to lower the weight, reduce the cost, relieve the internal stress to ensure the high dimensional stability, and improve performance such as pressure resistance, impact resistance, high refractoriness, sound insulation, heat insulation, and insulativity. Also, the hollow glass bead can be used to replace high-cost filling materials such as bronze powder, molybdenum disulfide, and silica white.
