Diatomite for Pesticides in Agriculture

Diatomaceous earth (DE) is a natural, abrasive powder that's the fossilized remains of ancient algal shells called Diatoms or

Phytoplankton. The Diatoms living in the waterways absorb minerals and elements from water enabling them to 'build' their tiny shells.Consequentially, the fossilized remains have captured and contain the some 15 trace minerals used to form the shell. As they die the microscopic diatoms drop to the bottom of the waterways and form deposits of essentially marine sediment. These sedimentary deposits are later mined, milled, dried and bagged creating Diatomaceous Earth or more commonly known as DE. DE is widely used internationally for a host of industrial, agricultural and horticultural applications.

Pest killing principles:

It controls pests by cracking open their joints and by rubbing holes through their outer shells. The bugs die quickly, since the holes let air in and let out moisture from the insects' bodies, but it is safe to use around people and pets, with just a couple of simple precautions. You can use plain diatomaceous earth; you don't need to combine poisons with it.

Applications

It can be widely applied in agriculture and used on any flowers, trees, vegetables, grain and grass.

tribolium, aphids, beetles, fleas, lice, bedbugs, mosquitoes, cang, crickets,cockroaches, etc.
 

 How to use?

• Dry Application

The goal is to get coverage over the entire plant, especially under the leaves. For young plants, as little as two pounds per acre may be adequate. For larger plants, five lb/acre is probably sufficient. With extra growth, it might be necessary to increase the amount. An examination of the leaves will tell if the leaf bottom is covered.

• Applicator

A good dust applicator is essential, and should be equipped with electronic nozzles, which put a negative charge on the dust. The plant being positive, attracts the dust making for a better coverage even ion leaf bottom.

• Wet Application

The same rates per acre apply when using as a wettable powder. Adding water is merely a means of using existing spray equipment.

• Mixing Instructions

        Minimum: 1 lb. to 2 gals. water

        Maximum: 1 lb. to 25 gals. water
