Submerged arc furnace is also called electric arc furnace or electric resistance furnace. It is mainly used to restore and smelt ore. And it’s also the material of carbonaceous reducing agent and rholite. Submerged arc furnace mainly produces silicon iron, ferromanganese iron, chromium iron, ferrotungsten, silicon-manganese alloy and other ferroalloys. The operating features are that carbon or magnesia refractory is used in lining of furnace and that electrode is used. The electrode is inserted into furnace charge to for submerged arc operation. It is a kind of industrial electric furnace making use of the arc energy and energy producing by electrode of furnace due to current through the furnace charge. It has the function of continuous feeding charge, intermittent slagging and continuous operation.
