Plant origin: dried flower buds and fruits of sophora flavescens Ait; Bark and leaves of quercus iberica; Dysosma veitchii(Hemsl. et Wils.) Fu; Hypericum plants with red Eclipta (Hunan perforatum) Hypericum ascyron L. wholeherb; oleander plant kenaf Apocynum lancifolium Rus. Leaves.

Quercetin belong to flavonoid, it exist in the flowers, leaves, fruits of many plants mostly in form of glycosides, e.g. rutin, quercetin glycosides, hyperin, etc.. it can be obtained by acid hydrolysis.

Properties: yellow needle crystalline dihydrate (dilute ethanol),between the 95-97 centigrade degree become anhydrous, m.p. 314 centigrade degree (decomposition). Can be dissolved in cold ethanol (1:290), freely soluble in hot ethanol (1:23), soluble in methanol, ethyl acetate, acetic acid, pyridine, acetone etc, insoluble in water, benzene, ether, chloroform, petroleum ether, etc., alkaline aqueous appears yellow, almost insoluble in water, taste bitter dissolve in ethanol liquid.

Function : quercetin have good expectorant，anti-cough and some asthma effect , can be used for the treatment of chronic bronchitis. There are also effect to reduce blood pressure, increase capillary resistance, reduce capillary fragility, reduce blood fat, expand coronary artery, increase coronary blood flow. It is that effect of adjuvant therapy for patients of coronary heart disease and hypertension.

　　1. anti-oxidants, mainly for oil, beverages, cold drinks, meat processing products.

　　2. natural dyes, it can be used for media, e.g. wool and cotton, aluminum salt yellow, chromium salt olive 　　　　yellow, tin salts orange , iron salts olive green, good at anti-soaping , Sunscreen level medium.

　　3. anti-tumor effect, quercetin could significantly inhibit Cancer cell and the growth of malignant cells in vitro and AISHI's ascites tumor DNA, RNA and protein synthesis.

　　4. quercetin inhibit platelet aggregation and relase 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT). Quercetin were 　　　significantly inhibited -induced platelet aggregation by ADP, thrombin and platelet-activating factor (PAF) , in which it has strongest effect for inhibition of PAF, quercetin can also inhibit the release of thrombin-induced rabbit platelet 3H-5 -HT.

　　5. research for derivatives of quercetin. insoluble in water, the hydrophilic group is introduced to increase the solubility, then it is easy to absorb, thereby pharmacological effect is enhanced. Synthetic quercetin oxygen acid lysine increase water solubility. It use for treatment of bleeding disorders, circulatory disorders, atherosclerosis e.g in proof for clinical trials with high efficacy.

6. quercetin treatment of prostate cancer, quercetin can block the effect of androgen to prostate cancer cells of hormone-dependent human. Androgenic effects are blocked, the prostate cancer cell growth will slow down or stop. Onions, apples, red wine, green tea contains large amounts of quercetin, prostate cancer patients should eat more.In the United States, quercetin is a non-prescription drug for treatment of prostate cancer , can be bought in pharmacies. But in China, not yet approved as the drug for prostate treatment.
