The vacuum method renders drilling and opening of the original cartridges unnecessary.

The refill adapter is screwed onto a luer lock syringe filled with ink and then pressed on the ventilation opening of the cartridge. By creating a vacuum, the ink is sucked into the cartridge.

User manual:
Refilling Brother cartridges: Draw the required amount of ink into the luer lock syringe, then screw the BroLuer onto the syringe.
 

Press the adapter onto the ventilation opening and pull the plunger of the syringe up in order to draw air out of the cartridge and create a vacuum.
When you let go of the plunger, the ink is automatically sucked into the cartridge.
