Zeolite can be used to help purify municipal water supplies and waste water. In many countries, water companies use Zeolites to filter industrial and drinking water. It also acts as a filter medium to remove dirt from swimming pool water. Therefore it reduces the usage of chlorine. Chlorine is used to neutralize ammonia cal by products of pollution. Since Zeolite (Clinoptilolite) removes ammonia products, some pools have found chlorine being reduced by as much as 50%. Zeolite is becoming an excellent replacement for sand filters because it has a working life longer than traditional sand; also it weighs less e.g. one cubic foot of Zeolite weighs about 50 lbs whereas one cubic foot of sand weighs about 100 lbs. 
The method of application is to replace sand with Zeolite and backwash normally. Depending on ammonia and other captions, we can determine when replacement is needed.

Industry 
Industrial uses of Zeolite are listed below
1. Lightweight construction materials: Zeolites prepare lightweight concrete for construction. As a result of their porous structure they are lighter than sand which increases volume per tone but with similar hardness and strength. 
2. Gas purification and separation: Zeolites act as molecular sieves; therefore, they are used to purify natural gases through removing impurities such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and water. In addition they are used to separate oxygen and nitrogen in pressure swing adsorption columns. 
3. Fillers: In the manufacture of paper, Zeolites are used as fillers. They are highly utilized in paint and plastic industries. 
4. Radioactive waste treatment: Zeolites have high ion exchange capacity and accordingly absorb elements such as caesium 137 and strontium 90 and hold them in their crystal structure. 
5. Pollution control: Zeolite reduces odour , ammonia , heavy metal pollution . It also can increase biological activity.
