Fiber optic patch cables are becoming extremely popular in both the telecommunications and the networking industry. They provide greater bandwidth and far greater efficiency in comparison to the conventional communication medium of copper wires. At Specialized Products, we carry both multimode fiber optic patch cables and single mode fiber optic cables that come in lengths ranging from 1m to 10 m and all of our cables come in both duplex and simplex formats that cover a large array of different connection types including FC, SC, ST, LC, and MTRJ-ST. Multimode fiber optic patch cables have larger cores than single mode cables, and support multiple pathways for light. These cables are generally used for short-distance applications and can be used for most general fiber applications such as adding segments to an existing network.
Single mode fiber optic patch cables have smaller cores than multimode cables and allow light to travel through one pathway in the core. This system allows data to be transferred at distances over 50 times greater than those of multimode cables and is most applicable where low signal loss and high data rates are required, such as long-haul network applications, those spread out over campuses and greater distances
