Although Nanoscale transparent iron oxide belongs to inorganic pigment judged from the process of synthesizing and its performance characteristics, it does have some characteristics of organic pigment. Compared with untransparent iron oxide pigment, the particle of transparent iron oxide belongs to nanocrystal with tiny particle size (about 0.01-0.015μm). Transparent iron oxide has high oil absorption capacity because of the big specific surface area of transparent iron oxide (about 128㎡／ｇ) which is caused by the small-size effect of nanocrystal. The oil absorption capacity of phthalocyanine blue, phthalocyanine green and carbazole violet respectively are 56, 46 and 84, while as to untransparent iron oxide, the number is only 18. When made into film, transparent iron oxide has transparent dyeing effect, because the particle size is shorter than half optical wavelength and the particles disperse in the media. Transparent iron oxide has excellent dyeing property compared with dark color of the untransparent iron oxide, because its particle size is so tiny and the scattering and absorption of light is obviously different from traditional untransparent iron oxide.

1 Automobile coatings: When mixed with aluminum pigments and pearl powder, it becomes golden yellow, and when matched with transparent organic pigments it can bring up different colors of transparent paints in oil and water systems.
2 Wood coatings: Transparent iron oxide with soft and invariant color is widely used in wood dyeing, because it can prevent ultraviolet damage to the wood.
3 Industrial coatings: Transparent iron oxide is widely used in metal surface coatings. It presents the effect of gold or coppery color and is quite suitable for inner and outer coatings of packaging tins.
4 Printing inks: The brightly transparent color is applied in the printing of aluminum foil.
5 Artistic coatings: It can keep the color for a long period of time.
6 Plastic package: It can be made into cans and bottles when used in PET or PP plastic.
7 Cosmetic: It is suitable for cosmetic because of the nontoxicity and ability of absorbing UV-light.
8 Powder coatings: There is no color change within five to twenty minutes when the temperature ranges from 130℃ to 200℃.
