Hook and loop fastener or hook and loop tape, or hook and loop fastener tape has another more well-known name — velcro, which is actually a genericized trademark of a American brand, consist of two components: typically, two lineal fabric strips which are attached to the opposing surfaces to be fastened. The first component features tiny hooks; the second features smaller and "hairier" loops. By simply pressing two components together, the hooks catch in the loops and the two pieces fasten or bind temporarily. By pulling or peeling the two surfaces apart, hook and loop separate.
