Sodium dichromate is the
chemical compound with the formula
Na2Cr2O7. Usually, however, the salt is handled as its dihydrate Na2Cr2O7*2
H2O. Virtually all chromium ore is processed via conversion to sodium dichromate. In this way, many millions of kilograms of sodium dichromate are produced annually. In terms of reactivity and appearance, sodium dichromate and
potassium dichromate are very similar. The sodium salt is, however, around twenty times more soluble in water than the potassium salt (49 g/L at 0 °C) and its
equivalent weight is also lower, which is often desirable.
Use:
1)Raw materials used for the production of chromic acid, potassium dichromate, ammonium dichromate, basic chromium sulfate, lead, chrome yellow, copper, chrome red, melting chrome yellow, chrome oxide green, etc..
2)Used as the oxidant of the production of production of alkaline lake blue dyes, saccharin, synthetic camphor, synthetic fibers.
Pharmaceutical industry for the production of dapsone, benzocaine, folic acid, Leifonuer and other oxidants.
3)Printing and dyeing industry as aniline dyes, oxidants, sulfide when the vat dye staining after the treatment agent, acid mordant mordant dyes.
4)The tanning industry as tanning agents.
5)Electroplating industry for galvanizing and passivation, to increase the brightness.
6)The glass industry as a green colorant.
