The TN12 has a safety circuit to protect the driver and the LED from overheating.

How does it work?

The maximum safe temperature on the driver is set to 85°C, the driver will check
the temperature every 10 seconds and if the temperature is higher than 85°C,
it will drop the current by 50mA every 10 seconds until the temperature drops below
the safe temperature. Once the driver cools to below 80°C, it will start increasing
the current by 50mA every 10 seconds if it is below 80C.

Why has Thrunite adopted this technology? What are the advantages of it?

With the development of LED power, flashlight users dream that their flashlight can
produce more lumens but keep the same compact sizes they are familiar with

To achieve more LED power requires more current, TN12 uses a Cree XM-L U2 LED with
the maximum luminous efficiency, which means the safety of using at its maximum
potential also needs to be considered. Because the higher current, heat dissipation
may become a crucial factor to flashlight reliability. In order for the TN12 to have
good heat dissipation we designed it boldly through two aspects: firstly, we used a
copper board to make the heat conduction of LED . Why use a cooper board? Because
cooper has the better heat conduction ability and it can let the bottom pad of the
LED to stick on to the copper board directly. Because of this, it can achieve thermal
isolation efficiently. On the contrary, Al board’s heat dispersion can not reach this
capability. So by using a copper board, the LED's lifespan is extended through its g
ood heat dispersion.

Even though the copper board is capable of dispersing heat quickly, there is still a
significant amount of heat. The temperature will increase quickly, which may lead to
damage of the circuitry. The heat then transfers to the body of the flashlight, which
can harm the flashlight user. Because the flashlight body has become so hot, the user
will shut it off until it has cooled, rendering the flashlight useless.

To solve this dilemma, the Thrunite TN12 has adopted another key piece of engineering.
Electrical components of the circuitry monitor the temperature of the flashlight
constantly to ensure safe use throughout the life of the flashlight. All safety
temperatures of electronic component is set to 85 degree, if the temperature is higher
than 85 degree, the performance of electronic component will be affected, it also can
be potential threat to the flashlight life. So we set 80 degree as the highest
temperature to protect the driver. This not only protects the circuitry from overheating
but it protects the user from any harm.
Thrunite always pursues more brightness, more efficiency, more stability and more safety.
By many testing we find that if we adopt this method of controlling temperature, we can
get the most brightness at the same time can ensure the safety of usage. By doing so,
the Thrunite TN12 can reach 690 lumens amazingly.
