Electroluminescent backlight, EL backlight, is a solid state phenomenon which uses colored phosphors, not heat, to generate light.
EL backlights are very thin (<0.8mm), light weight and provide an even light.
EL backlight is available in a variety of colors, with white being the most popular for use with LCDs. To have a lower consumption and longer life time, they require voltages of 100 V AC and 400Hz. This is supplied by an inverter that converts a 5, 12 or 24VDC input to the AC output. The half life time of EL backlight is 3, 000 to 5, 000 hours. The biggest life time will be more than 20, 000 hours.
Working voltage: 6VDC, 12VDC, 110V-240V AC
