Guangdong has gained gradual achievement after it released a series of strong policies and measures to push energy conservation, emission and consumption reduction, optimize energy structure, develop cleaner production and circular economy and improve ecological environment in recent years, with energy consumption per unit of GDP down 4.3% in 2008, chemical oxygen demand down 5.2% and sulfur dioxide emission down 5.5%. As a major energy consumption province, Guangdong accounts for 8% of national power consumption and 10% of national electrical power consumption, but in the meantime, Guangdong is a small energy production province, with energy self-sufficient rate merely 10%. so the development prospect of Guangdong green industry is broad.
