Boron carbide (B4C) thin films are recognized to have potential applications like hard coating and electron field emission devices. B4C is the third hardest material, the extreme hardness of boron carbide gives it excellent wear and abrasion resistance and stability at high temperature, and as a consequence it finds application as nozzles for slurry pumping, grit blasting and in water jet cutters, etc.
