What is SABER certification?

SABER certification is a compliance certification evaluation program for non-Saudi Arabian enterprises (i.e. enterprises exported to Saudi Arabia).

SABER certification is an updated version of SASO certification and a new certification and accreditation program to replace SASO certification.

From January 15, 2020, "SABER Certification" will completely replace the old "SASO certification", and all products will be subject to SABER certification in order to smooth customs clearance.

SABER Certification "is a new assessment program for conformity certification of products and lots of goods destined for Saudi Arabia. The importance of the SABER certificate is to confirm that the products comply with Saudi standards and specifications and to protect investors from fraud when importing any high or medium risk products, as well as to prevent fake and substandard products and ensure that the products do not affect the health and safety of consumers. SABER Certification is a new online application system from SASO. SABER is essentially a web tool for product registration, issuance and obtaining COC certificates for compliance.

According to SABER Certification, products will be classified according to the risk category: high, medium or low. According to the risk category, different conformity testing procedures will be applied, which will be carried out by different accreditation bodies.

SABER certification process:
To obtain SASO certification and export products to Saudi Arabia, the following steps are required:
Apply to the consulting company, and the consulting company will inform the enterprise of the product certification procedure according to the product category and SASO requirements;
Enterprises in accordance with the certification procedures to submit product samples for testing, some products (such as some motor vehicles and accessories products) need to be factory inspection;
After passing the product testing, the enterprise obtains SASO certification; If the product does not pass the test, the enterprise will get a detailed report
Products exported to Saudi Arabia, goods entry to issue SASO certification certificate, Saudi Arabia Standards Organization technical personnel will check the certificate; If the SASO certificate cannot be issued, the products will be refused entry or sampled to Saudi Arabian Ministry of Industry and Commerce or Saudi Arabian Standards Organization laboratories for testing. If the test is not qualified, the products will be refused entry, and all expenses will be borne by the exporter
