Nitrocellulose, also called nitrocotton or gun cotton, is the reaction product of refined cotton and nitric acid, sulfuric acid through esterification. It is white floc. And it is the main ingredient of modern gunpowder. It is also used in certain lacquers and paints, such as furniture paints, guitar paint and nail polish.
Properties:
Nitrocellulose is resistant to water, dilute acid, weak base and various oils. It is difficult to dissolve in water, and it is soluble in acetone. It is easy to discolor when exposed to sunlight. It is highly flammable. Nitrocellulose has different nitrogen content and solubility because of the different conditions during nitration. Nitrocellulose is easy to explode and unstable when the nitrogen content exceeds 12.5%.

Application:
Nitrocellulose is widely used in many fields of our daily life, and its main applications are shown below:
Nitrocellulose lacquer to paint furniture, ceiling and interior wall.
Guitar lacquer.
Nail polish.
