 Many crude oils in the world contain naturally occurring long chains of n-paraffins that can precipitate as wax crystals. This can occur as a result of temperature or pressure drop, or from a loss of light ends. Treatments for inhibiting wax crystal formation and minimizing deposition on equipment and pipeline surfaces treatments include applying heat, mechanical cleaning, and/or applying appropriate chemical dosages. Chemical treatment can be both practical and economic and functions by disrupting wax crystal growth.

   In the treatment of crude oil, pour point depressant/Flow Improver is often used to reduce the viscosity of crude oil in the process of production and transportation. The precipitation of paraffins, which are natural components of crude oil, may lead to challenges during production, transportation, or storage. Important factors influencing paraffin wax precipitation are: temperature, climatic conditions, cooling rates of storage tanks and pipelines, and rheological parameters in the pipelines.

   Crude pour point depressant/Flow Improver is an important part of the crude oil flow modifiers, also known as cold flow improvers. They are a class that could reduce the freezing point of oil and oil products, improve its low temperature fluidity of substance. In recent years, using crude oil pour point depressant to improve the chemical modification of waxy crude oil rheological has been more and more important.

   Crude oil and heavy fuel oils can have relatively high pourpoints due to paraffins present. The pourpoint is the temperature at which the fluid becomes “solid”. These high pourpoints can cause all kind of problems especially during transport through pipelines. Mining and transportation of heavy oil in the process, because the higher viscosity and freezing point, wasting a lot of production and distribution of energy, and the results are not satisfactory.
