Bring 50 widescreen inches of high-quality gas-plasma viewing into your life with Samsung's broad, 50-inch HP-P5071 flat-panel television. The set delivers brilliant color, extraordinarily high contrast, and high-definition compatibility with HD--and PC--sources. It offers a detailed native resolution of 1,366 x 768, and its direct-digital DVI input works with compatible DTV set-top boxes. There's also a standard RGB computer input so the set can double as a computer monitor.
A built-in analog tuner, a pedestal stand, and a generous array of audio/video connections make set up a snap. Further, the set's widescreen (16:9) display is specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies, either from DVD or from HDTV broadcasts when the set is hooked up to a DTV receiver (not included).

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the HP-P5071 is an astoundingly slim 3.3 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting (the set includes a convenient pedestal stand). Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. You do, however, need to be wary of image burn-in (wherein long-held stationary images leave a permanent impression in the screen).

Additional inputs include 2 HD component-video inputs (480p/720p/1080i) as well as 2 S-video, 3 composite-video, and 1 dual-tuner RF jack. Side-panel AV inputs provide easy access for gear like camcorders and gaming consoles, even after you've mounted the set on the wall. Samsung's proprietary video-enhancement technology, Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe), performs 3D noise reduction and detail and contrast enhancement for all interlaced (non-HD) sources.

The also set houses a 15-watts-per-channel audio amplifier for use with optional speakers, such as those in your existing stereo or home theater, or Samsung's matching speakers, which affix to the base of the set. Other optional accessories include a wall-mount kit (WMN4240).

SRS TruSurround XT employs SRS TruSurround, TruBass virtual subwoofer effect, Dialog Clarity virtual center channel, and WOW stereo enhancement. There's also a handy subwoofer output in case you hanker for the real thing: room-shaking bass for your TV, computer, and video programs courtesy of an outboard powered subwoofer.

The set's NTSC 2-tuner picture-in-picture (side-by-side, split-screen) grants convenient, simultaneous viewing of 2 TV programs, and a fanless cooling system ensures quiet operation.
