It is well known and widely accepted that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is important for good health and associated with a reduced risk of cancer. Sulforaphane, a NATURAL compound found in broccoli and other cruciferous veges, acts as the MOST POTENT monofunctional inducer of detoxification enzymes(Phase 2 enzymes) in all vegetables, may explain why the consumption of green and yellow veges, especially crucifers, is associated with lower cancer risk.
Sulforaphane is also a sort of indirect antioxidants, the antioxidation potency of it still remain even after they have left the body as compared with direct antioxidants, such as vitamin E, C and beta-carotene which neutralize only one molecule of a radical at a time and are then consumed in the process. Most antioxidants such as Vitamin C, polyphenols and anthocyanins will be eliminated from the body quickly just in a few of hours, whereas Sulforaphane will stimulate the body to scavenge free radicals for several days.
